The Return to Blogging and Wargaming

So just remembered recently I have a blog

It's been almost 4 years since I did anything here....really sad if I plan to blog at all.
Mostly this was on impulse, part of it was I was bored as hell in class :/

My focus was a bit scattered as I didn't know what would be the right way to go forward with this at all. I started out with Yugioh as a subject to talk about, but it's becoming a bit dry on me as of late (Which is a shame since I love the game and my Blackwing deck...but I digress).

With years of me just working my ass off, gaining commitments and relieving/rekindling relationships. It's come to my attention that simple forums might not be able to contain my current hobby passion. Wargaming.

Such a magical (and expensive) hobby this is: Tactical know-how, artistic interpretation, social commentary...humour. It almost has it all. The drive and passion is there, so might as well focus on that for my blog. It's never a stale thing since I do play different systems, and my gaming group is a healthy community of folks.

So to start of, some background of my wargaming experience.

  • Got influence by wargaming as a whole when I walked randomly into a Games Workshop store. Met some cool folk, saw their progress, and talked about the games they play (mostly WH 40k). Got stuck in and bought a starter. Played with a couple of chaps with my newbie Ultramarines.
  • Got a bit dulled out just playing the Smurfs, so broadened my horizons to other races. Tau caught my eye, cause robots, and built a small cadre.
  • Shortly after, lots of things happened and the hobby got shoved in the background of my life (i.e. mortgages). So it got a bit stale for me for a year.
  • Out of curiosity, went to Sentry Box (largest gaming store in Calgary...come visit when you're in town). and browsed their wares. This place is geek heaven people. GEEK. HEAVEN.
  • From then on tried out a couple of different games. Some of them I prioritize (Dystopian Wars), some others I play when I get the chance to (WarmaHordes).
  • Pretty boring, right? It was basically saw something shiny, get a demo, buy. Rinse and repeat.
  • Expenses were large, but the satisfaction was great. The community makes you never regret making that first step, and from what I see others in this hobby feel as well.
As a list of what I'm into:
  • Dystopian Wars (My current main)
  • Firestorm Armada
  • Dropzone Commander
  • WarmaHordes
  • Infinity
  • Dust Tactics
  • Warhammer 40k
  • Warhammer Fantasy
  • Flames of War
  • X-Wing
Pretty brief this time, but I'll be guaranteed to post more. Will post in couple of hours to kick off with my all time favourite game from Spartan Games - Dystopia Wars!
